Still makes sense to build a house that is energy efficient as it can be...because you know the cost of energy will go up...and it goes up a lot faster than it comes down.

I wonder how many people the 'old gas lines and the odd/even gas days'?  The energy crunch at least kick started the Green/efficiency movement.  But, I think the energy crunch has largely been forgotten by most.

There is the tiny house movement and the net zero movement; however, when we watch HGTV or DIY the building and real estate shows generally have 4 bedrooms, 3 baths, 3 car garages, 16 ft high great room ceilings and 3,000 or more sq ft.  And, most of the people buying these places only have 1 or 2 kids...seems more than anyone needs.  But in this country if you have the money or the credit you can buy what you like.

Back in the day Mother Earth News (now yuppie earth news) did a lot with cement block, earth bermed , passive solar, owner/builder homes at their eco village...what ever happened to that when the original folks sold the magazine...I think these homes were built as part of a 'living school'...back in the 80's...would be great if there was a long term study on that.

No, haven't been.  I am not much of a reader/fan of MEN anymore.  Wife got me a subscription last year for $10 sale.  It's okay at best.  I do go to the web site at times and look up some old articles...but there are a ton of pop ups on that site.
