Houston, we may have a problem, it's over freezing the next couple days, think I might be switching to salting.

'Anyone ever tan their own hides before?"

one day I was walking in the woods and there was limited walking room. I pulled back a branch and tried to move forward a bit, when the branch suddenly swung back and hit me on the rear end.

I guess you could say I have experience in tanning my own hide. 🙂

Well that sure went into a different direction then I was thinking!

Suppose to be 40's the next several days, going to break out the pressure washer.

I tried using my mora and woodsman pal to flesh it, deided to order some fleshing tools

I picked up a tub to soak the hides

I threw together a quick fleshing bench

time to get to work

with the wacky weather I have been fleshing on the warm days, chickens have been helping out

I was thinking, if I had a flock of about 20 birds and laid the hides out flat, I bet they would have it picked clean in a day

I was running into some dried out spots and since I am going to use the hides for smaller pieces I cut up the hides into roughly 2 foot pieces

I still have some fleshing but read that it is a good thing to soak them for a couple days, so I added 30 pounds of lime to my tub, face mask is important

added some water

and got the hides soaking

I'll stir them up a couple times today and probably change out the lime water tomorrow

Some of this might be a little late.  Good resource though.  Not a bad You Tube channel (although she can be long winded)
