Saturday afternoon I called a friend who raises steer and asked what his thoughts were, he said due to the change in diet and the way the weather has been it sounds normal, but to be on the safe side, get some anti-biotics, of course the farm store was closed when I got there.

Yesterday the wife said the bigger one was acting strange as well, went and checked on him, he was displaying the same symptoms, diarrhea, runny nose and a cough.

So I called the breeder and told him what was going on, he said to call the vet at once, he gave me the number for his vet and told me to tell them I bought them from him and I would like to talk to a vet

Called and got the answering service, they said since we were not a current customer of theirs, they could not help.

So I called the breeder back, told him what they said, he said to give him 10 minutes, 10 minutes later the vet called me.

Told her what was going on, she asked if they were up on their feet and eating, yes I replied, she said it wasn't a pressing matter than to have her come out on a sunday, but to call back this morning and one of the vets will come out and look at them, she says it sounds like a bronchial infection, so I'm just waiting till 8 am to give them a call

thanks, the vet called me around noon yesterday, asked if anyone else who has cows had been on the propety, nope

asked if we had introduced any new cows into our herd, nope, just the same two we have had for 4 months

asked if I had been on any other farms, nope

asked if I had kids, yep

you know when your kids get a cold this time of year? Yes

your cows have a cold

he said to try and get their temps, if they are over 103, he will come give them some anti-biotics, otherwise, it will work itself out

so I get to try and get a thermometer in them today, oh joy, hope it goes better than the pigs did yesterday

well, it really didn't go much better than the pigs, their temps seemed okay, their stomach issues seemed to clear up and no runny noses, just let them wander around the yard and they seemed pretty normal

well they didn't, until about 2 minutes after this picture was taken and on of them decided to snap one of my nectarine trees that I planted this year in half, my wife was like "See, I told you!"

my response

Don't worry I can fix it
