wish there were descriptions, looks like surface bonding cement with the blocks, wonder if it's a concern since there is non on the outside

Cool idea! You can tell he redid the landscaping early on to accommodate the tree. Looks like he relocated it further away but still a little too close IMHO. My concern with the absence of any SBC nor waterproofing on the outside is how long it will take for that tree's roots to find the water reservoir and break in. I would think that a poly wrap around the outside wouldn't be a bad idea at the very least.

I always wondered about doing that in Texas but you hit limestone at a depth of 6". Came across one of my neighbors who started tinkering with carving stone. He usually has it filled up and it is at the lowest point on his property for collecting rainwater. Unfortunately, he rents the property and the landlord is uneducated and paranoid about "sink-holes". May be filled in shortly.

that's pretty awesome looking

yeah it's hard to tell, but this pic looks like there was digging on the left and definite digging on the right, wonder if they added anything behind them

Good point. The drain the hole there on the end (presumably for the filter) does not appear to be on the lowest point. I would have assumed that he would want that at the lowest point but based on how much work he put into it, I would assume that this was done properly?
