Well I started the base last weekend I hope to make some progress on the shape today. I am actually cheating some i have a large old clay pipe/flue that i will be using for the body of the oven then laying brick around it. Hopefully ill have some successful update pics later today and tomorrow.

any suggestions for the cooking base? i like the idea if using some sand a broken glass under a layer of concrete to help hold the heat. would it be better to use concrete or mortar for the cooking surface? or plain red clay brick that is mortared?

Turned out pretty decent. Ill get better pics tomorrow after i finish washing the brick and I have some day light lol the chimney is in the rear instead of the front, the design just worked better that way. hopefully it works later this week when i test it lol

I just couldn't wait to fire it up! I figured as long as I kept the fire from getting to crazy it couldn't really hurt it.... I Hope lol Im really surprised at how long the heat stays in the oven I made a quick door from some scrap 2x4 and the bricks were still warm this morning and i quit loading it with wood at 8pm last night. I am no mason thats for sure but overall im very happy with the results.
