I would just to be on the safe side, food grade usually is dealing with room temps, i would be concerned with any voc's given off at higher temps.

Think of it this way, a plastic bucket is food grade, I wouldn't use that for a smoke chamber.

Unless you are power sanding them or a really long hot burn they are a pain in the arse to burn off.

My suggestion would be both barrels need to be burned off of paint and undercoat super well. Tiger Torch for the win!

I wouldn't want to sell/share anything coming out of a painted barrel even at 100C. Looks at family, ya I'd let them eat it though.

Lol, true. I built my stack out of galvanized! I swear it is safe.

Wow great thread! I'd like to get smoking at some point here. Problem is we don't have a garage, or the space to store it during the winter months.

Gonna do some smoking Monday. Nothing on your level by any means. But I'm cooking two of my brother's favorite meats and have talked to a couple guys he served with who live nearby. They said theyd love to come.

Hope I'm not overdoing it. 16 pounds of meat total. Normally I like using straight wood to cook with. But for a smoke this long it's just easier to use chips over charcoal. And I don't have any whole pican wood right now.
