Pretty quiet week overall, class came together good.
I was on dining detail and two nights the chef was alone in the kitchen due to people being sick so I snuck back and helped him with dishes, breaking down the salad bar and steam tables.
Was called out by the cadre during chow the next day and thought I was in trouble for it, they asked me if anyone had requested that I help the chef.
Then why did I do it?
Because he needed help sir.
They looked at the class and said and that is what expected, we show initiative and help people in need, they then thanked me and told me the chef needed help that day as well and make sure it is taken care of.
Told to bring our gun cleaning kits, ear and eye protection this week, looks like we might be getting some range time.
Lost another cadet this week, so we are down 5.
Body healed up good last weekend, no issues with pt or MARC training.
I screwed up yesterday though, we were told first day to not talk about other cadets specifically, to only share our success and failures. I have done this since day one, I know a lot of people on other departments who have people in the academy and have been asked how they are doing. My response has always been the same.
They are doing great and are a great representative of your department.
I don't even tell my wife about others.
I inadvertenly disclosed something about another cadet yesterday though.
I immediately called the other cadet and apologized and he said for what, I told him what happened and he started laughing, he said it was no big deal.
I said it was though, we were told not to and I did, so I am going to tell the cadre in the morning when I get there.
He said K, seriously, I wouldn't worry about it.
I said I am not worried about it, my biggest concern was apologizing to him and since he forgave me I was good with it, but now it is an integrity issue if I don't tell the cadre. So I have to.
So tomorrow I get to go in and talk to the cadre and face the consequences.
Will let you guys know how it goes.
Talked with the cadre first thing Monday morning, explained what happened, they said they consider it a non issue with the way it happened and it reflects positively on my integrity and character for bringing it to their attention.
Pretty much a quiet week. Nothing too crazy happened.
Got our class rankings which are an average of your academics and initial pt test, I am number 4 in the class.
We have a midterm pt test coming up in a couple weeks, we were told if we scored over a 75 percentile on the cooper standards we can start doing pt on our own. My initial test was like an 88 so hopefully it shouldn't be an issue.
Speaking of PT I was given the iron man award this week for pt, I was quite surprised by that and humbled.
Scored a 98 on the exam this week and aced the two quiz
We are assigned study time from 6:00 to 6:45 so I was sitting at my desk when one of the cadre walked by.
"Morning K, what are you studying?"
"Are you in a gang k"
"Are you starting a gang?"
"I am thinking about it sir"
He walked away and I heard him talk to the next room.
"Go talk to K, he is thinking of starting a gang"
So we were standing in chow line and the cadre walked up to me.
" Did you start your gang yet K?"
"What is the name of your gang"
"The over 40 hill gang sir, you are welcome to join us if you like!"
"I am only 36 K"
"I will wait for you sir!"
He started laughing and walked away.
When we sat in the dining hall a couple of the cadets made a comment that I had balls for joking with the cadre like that.
I explained the conversation we had earlier that was the basis for the exchange and told them it is okay to respectfully joke with the cadre, the academy is what you make of it.
Onward to week 8, almost halfway through the academy.
