Up here in Maine we have town managers and town councils. Our town manager has had the council under his control for years, well that started changing a couple years ago and there are two council members who don't just rubber stamp what he wants. The one is giving up his seat due to health reasons and the other is a mutual friend. The mutual friend wants me to run for the vacant seat. What am I getting myself into.

I have a friend that is going to run for county commission in 2016. I will be involved.
The whole fracking thing has caused me to become very publicly outspoken..

When I think of getting involved in politics I think of my soul dying. I just could not deal with all the bureaucracy, etc. I think i came make more of an impact by living in a responsible manner and attempting to be an example that others might take some inspiration from.

I was a precinct delegate for a few years at the county level and went to the state conventions and such; it's not all that bad. I got out when I got into grad school; when I am done, I will defiantly get back into it.

Yes, our political system is largely broken, but nothing will ever change if we don't do anything to bring about change. Go for it, you've got nothing to lose.
