Found it growing under these boards in the mulch we laid last year

is it this?

Psilocybe cyanescens is a potent hallucinogen that grows abundantly in flowerbeds mulched with bark mulch, wood shavings or sawdust. Unless the reaction is one of extreme fear, medical treatment is advised only for children. Reassurance is considered the #1 treatment for adults. Any fever should be treated with cooling blankets or sponges and not with aspirin or other salicylates. At least one very young child has died from consumption of what was reported to be Psilocybe baeocystis, but what I suspect was actually this species, Psilocybe cyanescens. The other hazard is someone mistaking a deadly Galerina or a deadly Conocybe for a Psilocybe. One teen-age girl from Washington State died from mistaking Galerina autumnalis for the highly similar Psilocybe cyanescens, Psilocybe stuntzii or the next species, Psilocybe baeocystis.

We live in a very diverse area as far as mushrooms are concerned. Many species look very close to each other, I'd be careful what you do with that (I'm sure you're aware).

I'm not going to ingest them, I don't take drugs besides an occasional beer, we got two new french bull dog puppies and my wife noticed the shrooms when the pups were near the boards, I just grabbed them and threw them into the cows pasture, then I googled it, saw above and freaked because I figured the cows were tripping in the field so I went out with a flashlight and spent a half hour picking up every piece I could find.

Sounds like me 🙂

I never considered cows getting high off them, it makes sense though since they grow in their feces. College students around here go into cow fields all the time looking for them.
