I might actually be able to afford a off the grid system some day, I hope this is a good sign of further price drops in the solar panel market

As someone who knows nothing about solar energy, how many of those panels would one need to run a 1000 sq ft home? Figuring we are constantly running a computer, television, etc, shit normal households use.

Is there a quick/easy way to calculate your need? I see tons of generators on govdeals.com, but have no idea how all that works. Same with the solar panels.

take your monthly electric bill, say your average usage is 300 kwh a month. Divide by 30 days, you use 10 kwh a day, divide by your average daily hours of sunlight here in maine it's 5 hours a day, so I would need a 2 kw system. Which would be 20 100 watt panels or 10 200 watt panels. That's the basic version

I can't wait for these to hit the market:

Seems like we're 5 years or less away from some major jumps in the technology!
