Electricity scares me. Pole is right by the planned barn site, so that's what were going to do. It makes sense to have power and light down there for the dark months. Shouldn't be too expensive I would think, and any trenching needed I am certainly willing to do, But no zappy zappy for me!

With electricity down there, we won't have to swap buckets out a couple times a day all winter. But eventually a well is likely down there.

Thanks Pork!

Is your meter on that pole? Or does it just carry the service to the house?

i know that gatorade freeze at lower temp than water because of the sugar and salt, but i don't know about llamas drinking it though.

I thought sim was joking, so I googled it, seems people do it for their horses. I would check with a vet to make sure it is safe for them to drink. I know we gave some to our pigs when they caught pneumonia

Another idea I came across when searching, put a football, soccerball or a basketball in their water trough helps keep it from freezing outside. The ball bobs around in the wind and when they drink

Sounds like MM's biggest problem is going to be getting water to the barn. If he has electricity then keeping the water from freezing won't be an issue. MM -- do you have any type of vehicle like a quad, truck, etc? If so carting large amounts of water out there shouldn't be a problem.

Yeah, hauling water with the quad is the short term plan. By short term, probably forever.....
