Mostly used for backpacking, but if you don't need to make a lot of food then it would come in handy.
You also can use aluminum cans as well, there are plenty of tutorials out there. I have made a few and here is a manufacturer that makes a more durable version - also their cook gear is pretty nice.
They can use:
Isopropyl Alcohol (rubbing - make sure it's a high percentage - the higher the % for everything listed will result in less soot).
Denatured Alcohol
High test booze like Everclear
Heet (the stuff you put in your car so your gas lines won't freeze)
edit: please move if it's in the wrong section.

I've been "in" the hiking community for a decade online. I was a co-creator of an alky stove version called the Mini-One, made out of the micro 6 oz aluminum V8 cans.
In a pinch, or a SHTF situation, this is very good knowledge to have. Knowing how to make one from pop cans, fiberglass insulation, and a fuel source is important, but BE CAREFUL!
Most of those fuels burn with little visible flame, and they burn HOT. I have a friend Kevin who set himself on fire while adding more denat to a stove that hadnt cooled properly. I know of hikers that have set themselves on fire by smoking and having their fuel bottle leak.
Be careful.

Watching the video, he didnt use fiberglass insulation as a wick. The fiberglass also acts as a safety system should the stove blow over in the wind, as it holds the denat or alcohol like a sponge or a car fuel cell.
Also, testing of rocket style alky stoves showed they used more fuel without a signifigant enough shortening of boil time.
My buddy's site and his stove inventions.

http://hikinghq.net/.....stove.html This one is his version of my stove concept... like Marconi and Tesla, we developed them at the same time and independently of each other. I'm taking credit though... but I, alas am Tesla, everyone things Rock invented it.

Stove comparison... there is a reason I carry the heavier Peak One when I hike.
