Groin whats up with NJ banning the tesla?

Car dealers fear Tesla. In states across the country, powerful car dealer associations have lobbied to ensure the electric car maker and its direct-sales model are kept out. This movement claimed another victory this week when New Jersey banned Tesla stores in the state.

On the surface, the fear is hard to fathom. In New Jersey, for instance, sales of TeslaÂ’s $70,000 Model S reportedly number in the hundreds. But if you dig a little deeper, it becomes obvious why dealers are worried. They donÂ’t just fear TeslaÂ’s cars. They fear TeslaÂ’s plan to create a world where you never have to bring your car into the shop again.

The first and most striking way Tesla kills the dealer service department cash cow is downloads. As part of its sales pitch, Tesla says you should think of its Model S sedan as “an app on four wheels.” That may sound like vacuous Silicon Valley marketing copy, but the company isn’t just being metaphorical. Software is at the heart of what keeps Teslas running. These internet-connected cars are designed to self-diagnose their problems. The vehicles can also download software fixes or updates — even new features — much like an iPhone when Apple puts out a new version of iOS. When fixes happen over the air, there’s no need for a shop in the first place.

Well it seems like the whole auto sales thing is a "good ole boy" club.  That's why it's so expensive to even set up shop.  It's to keep people out and limit competition.

Yeah, now the assembly passed a bill that is going to the legislature so they can vote on reducing magazine capacity from 15 down to 10.

This state is killing me.  So basically if it passes, it turns me (a law obiding, tax paying citizen) into a felon.

The old magazines won't be grandfathered???  Here in MD, when they passed stricter laws, they grandfathered the old stuff.

Who knows at this point. Here's the latest email from the NRA.

It's as convoluted as the bill they are fighting

New Jersey: Urgent Action Needed -- Stand and Fight!

Your immediate help is needed to combat anti-gun legislation in Trenton!  Assembly Bill 2006, sponsored by Assemblyman Louis Greenwald (D-6), and Senate Bill 993, sponsored by state Senator Loretta Weinberg (D-37), both seek to restrict the maximum capacity of ammunition magazines from 15 to 10 rounds and ban many popular firearms.  A.2006 could be voted on in the Assembly as early as this Thursday, March 20.  S.993 could be heard in Senate committee as early as Monday, March 24 and then voted on in the state Senate.  If left unchecked, S.993 could be sent to Governor Chris Christie’s desk, after passing the state Senate and Assembly, as early as next Thursday, March 27.  Please contact your state Senator and Assemblymen now!

Last week, “amendments” to A.2006 passed in the Assembly Law and Public Safety Committee.  These amendments supposedly eliminate the bill’s unintended ban on dozens of popular firearms.  However, don’t be fooled by false claims.  These new amendments only twist the tangled web of New Jersey’s gun laws further.  As amended, there is zero impact on the legislation’s ban on popular firearms and ammunition. Please contact your state Senator, both of your Assemblymen and Governor Christie, and tell them to oppose A.2006/S.993.  We also urge you to come to Trenton to testify before the Senate Law & Public Safety Committee on Monday, March 24.  While there is no current confirmation on whether S.993 will be heard at this hearing, we expect this legislation to be heard very soon.  This committee hearing is currently scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at the State House Annex at 125 West State Street in Trenton.  Your NRA-ILA will continue to provide more information once the official committee agenda is released.

Contact information for your state Senator and Assemblymen can be found here.
