not a bad idea, don't know why the builders are having an issue with it, all that is required is to run a line and conduit
Denver's new building codes include a change aimed at making it easier — and cheaper — for more residents of the fast-growing city to charge electric vehicles at home.
Although opposed by homebuilders, the electric vehicle readiness requirement says new single-family homes and duplexes built in the city will need to have the right electrical wiring to support electric vehicle plugs in their garages. At the least, the new homes must have conduits leading to the electrical panel.
While owners of older homes often must dig or break through walls, that latter option would allow a resident to install the wiring needed for a charging plug easily.

I am all in favor of 'green'. However... To me this is a case of the gov't legislating what we do with our homes. If people want plug in cars then let them do this at their discretion...they should not be forced to do so by the Govt. Let the individual decide and so shall the market place follow.
good point, but the govt already dictates what we have to put in our home, when we built ours part of the code is that there needs to be an outside outlet on the front and back of the house, gets a little tricky with mine since the back is buried under 7 feet of ledge, luckily they didn't push it

I hear you...Govt dictates way too much in codes...Here, I have to have a spigot in the front and the back...I haven't figured out how to get around it yet. I am going to try and get away with one in the garage and see how that works out. I will never use one in the back of my house.

they can bite me!
I am building 105 feet from the stream...i have a irrigation pump that I can pump water with when I need it. Plus, when I have time I will build a ram pump to a cistern on top of the hill for gravity flow or whatever.
We will not be using the back of the house as a yard...Our front yard over looks the barn, stream the lower orchard, our gardens...I hate 'text book' codes..
