Yeah they do. Actually on pg 156 of Ben Falk's The Resilient Farm and Homestead, he gives a detail of a living security fence using black locust and seaberry. In his opinion, only hawthorne is a more fierce living fence, but it grows at a slower rate. I think Im going to put this into practice on my property using it as a fuelwood hedge and living fence. We have one little corridor between properties that the deer use as a cut through. I think if I went and fenced it, there might be some complaining from the neighbors, but if I strategically planted a hedgerow it would reroute the deer around my property.
they grow fast? these hybrid poplars are suppose to grow 5 to 8 foot a year
Do you use poplar for firewood? It seems to burn too quickly for me. Don't get me wrong, if I have it I'll burn it. But if I'm thinking about growing it, locust sounds much better to me!
