because i'm going to have to do one of these basically from scratch. it's not the cost that bothers me, it's the fact that importing equipment like this into thailand will incur a 300% import duty and i am absolutely not going to pay that.

i suppose i could try and get individual pieces and assemble it together here, that may work. i haven't done an energy needs assessment yet but i'm looking for either rooftop or tower models that are able to power a household. basically, if i'm using my refrigerator, separate freezer for storing home grown meats, air conditioner and oscillating fans, router/computer etc my electric bill here is going to be over 4,000 baht per month. that would be approximately 130usd per month. that may seem laughably small to many of you however if i retire early i don't really want the bills and i'd rather spend a few thousand dollars now rather than hundreds every month later. expecting a 5-7 year payback at the above rates. also, electric in a developing country is always sketchy at best. can count on electric being cut for two days the moment i stock the freezer full of meat.

solar would only be acceptable as part of a hybrid system on my homestead up north as it's out of the tropical sun. here i can expect 10 hours a day of direct sun but up north near the laos border i will only get 2/3 of that.

couple more books. No idea which one will be the most useful for you. There is a lot of info i found on google about building your own wind power systems.
