I would have to move

A Minnesota green energy entrepreneur has been in jail since Friday all because of a wind turbine that once stood on his property.

Jay Nygard, founder of Go Green Energy, built the 29-foot-high turbine, which has been likened to a giant eggbeater, on his Orono, Minn., property in 2010 despite being denied a permit. Nygard and his lawyer, who argue that having a 1.5-kilowatt turbine is a right -- rather than a fixture subject to zoning laws -- spent a year fighting to keep it in place.

“My husband is a libertarian, and he has very strong views about Americans' rights to things," Nygard's wife, Kendall, said. "And if you're a property owner, you have some rights. When he sees things that are being violated, he's not afraid to take them head on."

"How would you like to open your bedroom window every morning and have a big wind turbine block your view of your lake and the enjoyment of your home and have a strobe-like effect into your home?"

- Rob Tennant, attorney for Nygards' neighbors

here's the thing..

If you dont own the land next to you there is a chance someone will do something that effects you and you them...buy more land and neighbors are not an issue.  if the guy wants to make is own electric on his own land whats the problem....where is this neighbors electric coming from?  did the niehbor complaining pay his taxes?  Enoy the look of clean energy and if it bothers you...move.

it's amazing how much of your land you can't use due to zoning, in our town if your lot is 100x200 you need 10 foot offsets on the side, and 25 foot offsets on the front and  15 on the back

so on 20,000 sqft only 12,800 sqft is useable, but you pay taxes on 20,000 sqft

good point K...since we are building on 'Ag' land we have like a 75ft set back (might be 50, either way I am fine)...but...and I love this...I can put all the cow manure in the world practically on the property line due to 'Right to Farm'...which would you rather have???

I am just a simple peace loving country boy.  I believe good fences make good neighbors.
