I don't ride anymore, and I wouldn't pay that much money for a bike, but that's pretty sweet, I think @porkchopsmmm should add this to his electric vehicle collection :)

If Tesla could revolutionize the car industry, who can possibly do the same for the motorcycling world?

One strong contender is Mission Motorcycles, the San Francisco-based company behind the $30,000 R, an all-electric bike that goes from 0 to 60 mph in a stunning 2.7 seconds.

Although technical challenges abound and cultural images of motorcycles don't exactly overlap with the appeal of eco-friendly power, Mission believes electricity is the way forward.

We spoke with Mark Seeger, CEO of Mission Motorcycles (and, full disclosure, a personal friend of mine — though I don't invest in his company nor do I plan to buy one of his bikes) to find out why he believes the all-electric motorcycle can sell.

The key factor is superior performance. Mission's motorcycles, Seeger claimed, "are designed to outperform gasoline superbikes like the Ducati Panigale R, BMW S100RR, and MV Augusta F4 in a head-to-head show down. Better acceleration, better control, better range."

This is the best time for electric motorcycles to enter the market, he said, as "the technology of burning hydrocarbons is going the way of the steam engine."

Here's a look at the Mission R, the bike that could spark a shift toward electric power in the motorcycle industry.

If I had the right donor bike I would consider building a shorter range electric bike. With components available these days it wouldn't be too hard -- but I would need to upgrade with more panels to be able to charge the bike at home without straining my current set up.

this one is pretty awesome

The all new Daymak Beast Ebike.

The Beast is a street-legal ebike, allowing riders to enjoy it on the trails, in the woods, on rough terrain, or in the city. Main features include a Daymak solar panel and an enclosed battery pack that recharges continuously.

Daymak has developed an innovative new stiffer chassis fitted with longer travel suspension at both ends which will give the rider improved comfort and handling. This amazing new ebike comes with powerful 4500 lumens led headlights, 15W solar panel battery case, customized hub motor, lithium batteries, extra large seat and cargo racks with increased load capacity.

Fully electric, the Beast can go as fast as 32km/h (20mph) with up to 40 km range. It is quiet, economical, good for the environment, and can take the rider anywhere they want to go. The enclosed solar panel battery case gives 5 distinctive advantages. First, the battery is always trickle charging thus avoiding the number one failure of all ebikes which is battery failure due to prolong time of no charging. Second, the solar panel yields about 10 km range per 8 hours of any ambience light. If the rider does not ride more than 40 km a week he never has to plug it in to charge the battery. Third, lower cost of charging. Fourth, less carbon foot print, and finally, the removable battery pack can be used as a back up generator since it comes with 2 USB plugs.

I am going to reflect on this one for a while. I think I could build something like this after messing around with the Razor electric bike we picked up. I would need bigger brakes, bigger tires, and a bigger suspension but that could be done.
