if I was going to do it over I would have built it like my greenhouse/smokehouse and we would have about 3600 in it instead

How is your solar setup running now? Is your dad able to monitor the state of charge?

For A/C you guys should check this out. Sanyo mini-splits... I think they are doing well with the off-grid world.

yeah, with the controller, everything is fine for what his needs are, we want to play with some things this summer though

I have installed many of the mini splits. They are not very hard at all. Keep in mind that they are heatpumps and won't really produce any heat in the winter up north. Heatpumps become almost useless below 30 degrees. I ones we install down here in NC only take a 20 amp feed and are 17 seer. very energy efficient.

we have brahmas and they do very well in the cold. You won't need a heatlamp, just keep them out of the wind and make sure their water is ice free and they will be all set. Light would be a concern for egg production though, I'm not sure how chickens respond to 12 volt led's though, that would be the smallest system. As far as breed types, you can get very specific with your requirements
