anyone thought of something like this? I sit here in Maine where normally we have below freezing temps from november through march, with a occasional warm day thrown in. Why pay to keep a freezer running when we have a natural freezing outdoors?
I was thinking of a super insulated box with a air inlet and outlet with maybe a solar powered computer fan on each one to help with air flow. You could have a insulated cap to cover the inlets and outlets in case of a warm day.
If there is anything left in the freezer when spring starts hitting, you could dehydrate it ( for fruit and veg) and make jerky (for meats)
thoughts?

My only concern is if you forget to to cover the inlets on a warm day, you might lose your food. Also, I think you would need to keep it covered to keep it out of the sun. Another thought, you might be able to forego the fans, air inlets/outlets if you only put frozen things in it. Then the outside ambient temperature, insulation etc might be enough to maintain.
agreed, was thinking we could put it in a corner of the barn or our shed on the northern side of the house, I wonder how hard it would be to hook up a self closing vent, run it off a solar diode or something where when the sun went down, the vents open and the fans kick on, then it shuts off and closes during the day.
