A guy that use to work for me was telling me his mom's ex boyfriend did this, he got some old forklift batteries that were being scrapped and set up a battery bank and would just charge his battery bank once a week with his generator for a afternoon and he could run his whole house off it, this seem feasible to you?

He said the amount of gas he went through was minimal compared to his old electric bill.

Sounds like BS to me. First off, if the Forklift batteries were being scrapped, they're probably no good. Second, those batteries are usually charged daily, so I doubt they would hold and maintain that kind of charge. And energy is energy and there's no such thing as free energy.

that was my thought, a guy who works for lift inc comes in quite often, I was asking him about it and he was saying once the batteries get to a certain point where they would only hold a certain charge, they replace them, said they are still somewhat good, in fact he gave me 6 that are sitting in my shed that I haven'd done anything with, we were trying to figure out how long it would take to charge and if the gas or propane needed would be less than a monthly electric bill

You have forklift batteries and you have been holding out on me?!?! These are like the holy grail in the solar world. They don't pass tests to provide the energy needed for a power hungry forklift but for home use they should last 15+ years with the low instant demands of a house. I have always been looking for some -- never found any.

On these dark days we basically live off of our battery bank. It is small and definitely couldn't hold us for more than 2 days. If this guy had a large enough bank, large enough generator, and/or small enough loads then he could definitely get away with it.

You need to get those suckers charged up and floating if they are just sitting around. You can kill them if they have a low charge and they are left to rot.
