I really like the idea of something like this but for someone who is already offgrid the cost of more panels (and possibly batteries) to support the charging of one of these would be cost prohibitive.

agreed pork, one of the comments I saw was 50,000 to build it and then replace the batteries every 10 years

$50,000?!?! You've got to be kidding me. I didn't watch the video but have followed other projects. An electric golf cart is cool and would make a good land run-about but to keep it charged up you would need ~$750 or more in dedicated panels and ironically the best time to charge such a beast is during the day -- when you want to be using it. So do you build a battery bank to charge the batteries of the golf cart? It all adds up.

That's one of the biggest problems I have with solar. We have had a ton of advancements in Photovoltaics in the last 5 or 10 years, but battery technology has been largely stagnant. Maybe building a better battery is this generations better mouse trap?

i would disagree that the battery technology hasn't evolved in the past 10 years.

Lots of new technologies and chemistries. Lithium phosphate getting more market, etc.
