This is really neat.

Dumb question, can something like this also serve as a back up supply for drinking water ?

By day helps conserve water usage for outside needs, but if you lost water you could drink ?

Any big deal to filter rain water if needed ?

with proper filtration and treatment it would be fins, biggest thing is usually diverting the first initial rain fall because of leaves, pollen and bird poop on your roof, only other concern would be your roofing material I would avoid anything off a asphalt roof

Also I have a Katadyn pocket water filter, maybe the combo could work if needed.

Perhaps get a filter with larger capacity.

metal would be the ideal roofing material, I am working on a design on a slow sand filter, once I get it running and test it, I'll share it
