Sorry I dropped out for so long; I think the notifications of replies are going to my junk mail.

Anyway, kind of exciting about the Tesla battery being piloted now. The more I think about it, if you're looking at it according to price, the Tesla battery isn't the best route for a constant off-grid setup vs. just backup in an emergency situation. Unless money is no object.

I'm a tad ashamed to say we don't even know if our water heater is propane or electric. It is behind a wall I would have to take a lot of screws out to get to, and with this being the first home I bought that is a detail I failed to get clarification on. I do know it is about 12 or 13 years old so I wouldn't mind replacing it with something better at this point.

How many GPMs would you recommend for a tankless heater? We are a family of five, and shower about once a week (yes it's true). It's really just the dishwasher and clothes washer that use most our hot water.

A big limiting factor for tankless heaters is how often do you need to draw a lot of water. E.g. to fill a bathtub can take forever and the water can get cold if the GPM's are too low.

Wow!  That's a lot of money.  I know it's reasonable compared to replacing a traditional heater, but to convert it would be a lot.

We use like 8 gallons of propane a month.  that includes oven and dryer, pays for itself in a short amount of time
