I think I saw a DIY version of this on instructables, I will have to look for it
K2 by Energant
We are a passionate team of students and engineers at the University of California, Berkeley who have engineered one of the first low-cost cook stoves in the world that can convert heat into electricity, with an added bonus of utilizing crop or household waste. Our cook stove will address problems in developing countries related to smoke-induced illness, a global killer accounting for more deaths than HIV and malaria COMBINED, environmental degradation, and a lack of electricity.
K2 is an updated version of KleanCook that will make an even greater contribution and impact. Here is our story.
Our Story
A few months ago we ran a pilot study with our first generation stove (KleanCook) in the Philippines and were met with huge appreciation and acceptance. Our cook stove worked, and people loved it.
During that time we realized that almost everyone we’ve seen used trash in their cooking fires. We later learned that this is a prevalent practice in many other developing countries. Trash, including plastics, was everywhere and burned well.
Unfortunately, the reality is that people will always be burning their trash for heating and cooking in many parts of the world, whether for cultural or traditional reasons. We are approaching the global waste problem by letting users know that, hey, trash isn’t the best, but we have something that can burn it cleanly for you.
