i really like hyrdo gens, but that one would require a pretty fast flowing river, i'd imagine.
I looked into it, as we have a steam on our property, but the flow we have isn't great enough to run one. I did find a nice waterwheel design, but i still dont think the flow would be strong enough to make it work.

I think it could work on more streams than you think, especially if you were to constuct a culvert that gradually narrowed the stream for a few meters, this would increase the flow pressure temporarily at least. it would require a hard material spillway immediately after the hydr to avoid accellerated erosion.
