I'm looking to raising a few animals for personal consumption next year, and to offset the costs, I am planning on raising several others along with it for sale. I plan to raise:

1 or 2 beef cattle (I might be willing to do more dependent on interest from our board members)

3 pigs

3 goats

20+ chickens

If there are board members interested in organic, free range, antibiotic free naturally fed meats please let me know. Interest in this thread will allow me to gauge how many animals to purchase for next season so if you are interested please speak up here.

I think this is a good thing, you are within 5 hours of a large amount of our members who live in a more urban area, maybe looking into starting a CSA for our members might be a option as well

All right moro, I got you down. Once I get the animals in, I'll post 'em up so you can track their progress.

I would support you if the cost to ship to Idaho would be more affordable, I have found a local family that raises grass fed beef about 15 minutes from my house. I highly recommend it to those of you considering.

I have organic grass fed beef 20mins from me... but I'd be interested in pork, poultry etc.

All right, well once I know a bit more about costs and such I will get back with you folks. It sounds like a lot of you have a line on beef already, which is actually kind of convenient since doing a beef is probably the hardest/most expensive animal I could do right now. I will probably raise one for myself this year anyway to try it out, but there should be enough to set someone up if they are really interested.

So for now, my main focus is going to be on:

Pork

Poultry (chickens, I will look into doing other sorts of fowl in the future)

Goats

Rabbits

possible: lambs

Keep in mind, this is going to be my first run at this so I can't make any guarantees as to how much meat will be available. I'm pretty excited about this whole thing though, I'm glad there is some general interest on the boards!

Duke, it sounds like a good idea. How will you treat the animals if they get sick? What will you use to worm them? Is there natural things they can be treated with? I'd be interested in some goat meat, myself.
