New to the forum here guys but just curious if anyone had experience with raising buffalo? My family raised them for about 12 years. My father started off by buying about 4 buffalo and a beefalo (mix between a cow and a buffalo). The most that we had at once was about 16, 2-3 mothers giving birth a year in the height of the heard. My family slaughtered Approximately 1 buffalo a year and was enough to sustain the family and fill the freezer for a year. We got the animal processed at a local Amish slaughter house, and would have ribeyes, t-bones, ground meet, livers, about everything we could get off the animal. The meat is delicious, more rich that beef IMO. Just curious of others experiences with raising them, I personally think the animals are beautiful and are not that much of a challenge in the aspect of raising the animal for consumption. Always awesome to watch the stampede of the heard in the winter cover ed in snow... javascript:void(0);

The 17 acres that we had them on had a lot of grazing area for them and plenty of room to run around and they still stayed in two main spots of the field. Most of the summer they were in the very back under a big oak and next to the creek. They are pretty smart animals, every time they would see my fathers blue truck they would come charging to the fence knowing they were about to be fed. The males can be aggressive but the ones you really have to watch out for are the new mothers, they can be VERY protective of the cafes.
