I can totally agree with you on the NOT a fun job! How many birds do you have altogether? Do you keep them whole birds or do you cut them into pieces? The wife and I split ours up half and half, some were whole and some were cut and separated into sections and freezer wrapped into dinner portions. There is nothing like doing your own chickens, its gratifying and tastes mighty good!

I planned on doing 20 in the Spring and 20 in the Fall. A weasel killed all but one this last Spring . I changed my set up and I had 16 make it to about 5-6 lbs each this Fall. The 4 died of normal stuff. I went 12 weeks though. They say 8 weeks but they grew a lot in the extra 4 weeks I gave them.
I kept a few whole and cut the rest up like you did. I have one of those Black and Decker freezer bag thing that sucks all the air out of it. Seems to work well with dinner portions.
Ya it is gratifying for sure and very very good. Worth the crappy part of the job for sure!
I have 6 Turkeys I am not looking forward to at all. hahah
