I went to let the dogs out this morning and this bird was just relaxing in the pond, thing had like a 6 foot wing span when it took off

Locally that is known as a sh!t poke, or herring. Not sure what the scientific name is but I know they are federally protected. A single bird can wipe out all the fry in a small pond in a couple days. Most hardcore fishermen will shoot them on sight.
