Thats the toughest part of farming...watching your kids face real life when its most unpleasant. Even my 15 yr old has a hard time with deaths. Slaughtering doesn't bother him nearly as much as losing one to an illness or accident. We all like to feel the animals have had a good life.

I really like the black/white one with the tiny horns.
That ones name is Belle. She is all dairy and hopefully will be my milker for next year. She' half Holstein half Ayreshire. All the others are beef/dairy splits so she's the best bet. I have a bull that looks just like her except he has a missing horn, lol.
Still just 6 here and we are rethinking how many we want to have to feed next winter. It really was a LOTTA hay to get in. So... we will graze them all summer up until time to feed hay in the Fall. And butcher down and keep the best meat breeder and the best dairy prospect. Our farm is much more suited to raising hogs than a lot of cattle so we're switching gears while we can!
