I dont know if it will help due to the thyroid issue, but it might at least help her skin problems.
When I prepare it I basically divide into thirds:
1/3 lean protein
1/3 high quality dog food (no fillers or corn in ingredient list. We use Blue Buffalo at the moment but might change)
1/3 Variety component (basically a Vegetable)
Once a week I give her one scrambled egg cooked with the shell mixed it as the protein.
The shell is to make sure she gets Calcium.

Our pug has had some skin issues every since we got him.. We always feed our dogs purina dog chow.. Well the vet kept giving us pills for his skin but nothing seemed to work. We then decided to switch dog food thinking the dog was allergic to the purina. After some research online we went with taste of the wild which is all natural and grain free. A little more exspensive at $50 for 22lbs but the skin issues are gone, and even our husky gained muscle mass and his fur is thicker and softer. I also noticed an increase in energy in both of them.

Yeah, Ive heard a lot of anecdotal evidence that a dogs diet greatly affects their skin/coat and general well being and that commercial dog food is crap that really messes them up. Vets (and doctors) in my experience are trained to prescribe, prescribe, prescribe. It's a shame a lot of old knowledge on how to treat things is lost. But hey, that's why we all come to places like this, isnt it?
