was talking to a local business owner about raising pigs this year, his wife is Filipino and is from a poor farming community. We were talking about the pigs escaping last year and the need to beef up our fencing.
He made the comment, just do it the way the filipinos do, start them as weaners with a chain through their nose tied to a tree, by the time they get older, all you need is a string and they won't test it
I thought he was pulling my leg, but he swears on a stack of bibles that's the way they do it in his wifes village
Not that I would do that, but I thought it was interesting and have been googling looking for info, but can't find anything, any one heard of this before?

I was in the Philippines 3 months ago. I saw two different methods for home grown pigs. The small piggery operation was a set of cement blocked walled pens, maybe 10 feet by 10 feet at most. A row of 5 or 10 pens. the pings were not allowed out of the pens.
I also saw a few yards with a single pig in a flimsy bamboo cage, see the attached photo. I dont know how or why but the single pigs didnt run away.
also noted 90% of the county homes had free ranging chickens, and a couple of fighting rooster. The cocks were tied to a pole, or in a small cage.
Thanks for the post and pic poiupoiu, the first one you describe is what I am seeing, also a lot of big ag corp videos
this video does show the bamboo shelter a string around the neck at the beginning though

the number may be off because he didnt really speak english, but from what i could under stand is he bought a 160KG pig for 12,000 phils peso
or roughly 350 lb pig for 250 USD.
no butcher costs because he is the butcher and there will be no left overs. every part will be sold in the market
