We currently have a ~2 yr old female GSD/Husky mix, 55lbs and fixed. She's a great dog, good with the kids, protective, and she stays outside 95% of the time if not more. The family where we got the dog, Spirit, just had a death in the family and they have to give away a lot of their animals. They are looking for a home for the brother (not sure if by birth or by lineage) to our dog. He is also fixed. I am unsure of age or any other specifics at this time but I have sent an email with questions.

Off the top off your head would you get a second dog? I have heard pros and cons ranging from that the second dog would be a good companion to the first dog to they will form their own little pack and run off to hunt whenever they want.

We live on 20 acres that is NOT fenced and most likely will never be. Our current dog does a good job of staying on our property and being protective. We would be looking for the new dog to do the same She just killed a possum the other day and gives us a near instant heads up if anyone gets close to the house. We are out in the middle of the woods with nothing around us so that could be a good or bad thing if the dogs decided to roam. I know we will face some challenges and need to train the dog to stick around, most likely being tethered on a long lead for a period of time.

I guess I am just concerned about messing up the good thing we have now with our single dog by introducing a second dog. Any feedback?

Nice looking pup, is that a human spine in the second pic ? :D

we have 3 dogs, when we got the second one, it really wasn't issue. Our first dog is a large rottie/gsd mix and the second dog was a pug. more of a chew toy really you could say. They got along fine, we had to put a gate across our bedroom door though so when our big dog wanted to be alone the pug couldn't get into the room.

When we got the third dog, that's when things changed. The pugs personality changed somewhat, almost to the point where it seems like he is trying to establish dominance over the new GSD female. Once we take one of the dogs out of the house, like if they have to stay overnight at the vets, the pug goes back to being submissive to the other dog left in the house.

I have had my older dog around a brother and sister of his years after they had been separated, they got along great.

I'd get it

Thanks for the info. This kind of fell into our laps -- I was thinking a different breed, smaller, boy dog would be a better fit but I can deny that it would be nice to add a related male dog. Our current dog is darn near perfect.

That is a deer spine. She found it out in the forest. She is a stone cold killer. Killed a possum on Sunday, a wood pecker on Thursday, I routinely find moles chewed up on the ground, etc. She finds different animal parts out in the woods (from hunters, yotes, ?) and chews on them for a while. I let her -- I think it keeps away the bad guys.

Just confirmed they were litter mates and were together for the first 8 months of their life. Also, he is bigger than our current dog, she is 55 lbs so I don't know what he would be.

EDIT: He was being fostered by a family temporarily and they fell in love with him. So it looks like we won't be taking him after all. It all works out in the end.

Now I wonder if I should keep an eye out for that Jack Russel I have always wanted.

We have five dogs. Considering the fact that they are pack animals, I think it is a good thing. I've never had a problem introducing a new one
