I am just beginning the homesteading process and I have a problem with one of my rabbits. All the information is in the youtube video I am linking to at the bottom. Pregnant rabbit gave birth to 4 babies and then ate them. Not sure what the deal is...

welcome @pastoralhomestead , she feels threatened, totally separate her from all other animals and people, it is a ingrained survival instinct and sadly some mothers have it more than others. If she resorts to cannibalism with the next brood with no external stimuli I wouldn't breed her again.

Excellent, thank you so much! Should I add dividers between all of my females (I have 4) in order to breed them so they can't see each other?

If I were you I would buy a good book on taking care of rabbits before i try to breed any more.

   1. did you get near the babies? if so, thats why she did it. you must leave them alone.

   2. as soon as the female gets pregnant, you must separate the male and female. if not, she may kill the male. or the male will always eat the babies.

    good luck and welcome aboard.

I did all of that, I also bought a book and did my research before I bred her. The male's cage is across the yard and she has had no contact with him. There was not another rabbit in the cage with her, but she can see the other rabbits. I wasn't around the babies, she had them at night and we found her eating them the next morning. I don't think it was anything I did out of ignorance, but I do think it has to do with stress and anxiety being around the other females.

It is really hard to tell, we had a hedgehog that use to Cannibalize no matter what we did, sometimes they are just wired wrong.

How is her overall disposition?  is she normally nervous or is she pretty relaxed?

She's a little stand offish most of the time. Not overly friendly, doesn't care to be touched. She doesn't seem to be nervous or anxious on a regular basis, just a little grumpy.
