Always glad to have new members that enjoy sharing what they do, but two first posts with links to your blog comes off as spam in my opinion. Facebook or twitter might be a better avenue for you to get your site out in front of people.

...what do you guys think about putting lighting in the coops for the winter to encourage egg production?  I have been told it's okay and I have been told it's best to let the birds rest.

I don't use them, we did our first year and didn't really see any impact on production

I have lights in my coop. They are on for 14 hrs a day to keep egg production up. If your hens are well fed and watered I don't see why they cant lay eggs daily.   Of course I am no expert just been doing the chicken thing a few yrs now.

I have 6 hens molting right now.  So between the short daylight hours and the molt, we're not getting any eggs.

Of the other four, two are too old and stopped laying and two are still young and will start laying in a month or two.

I've never put a light into my coop, but this winter I dont think it would help me anyway.

I have 34 hens. 26 are laying daily and the others one or two here and there.  Im not feeding them for 4 months organic feed and not get anything from them. LOL  HAHA

I sell eggs that's why I light my coop. I sell enough eggs I don't pay for feed so I keep them lite up!!
