This really hits home, thanks for posting. Our chicks are still too young to go outside but I see this coming very soon. We picked up some cheap shock collar from Amazon to help train the dog.

So I decided to try a experiment, I read this article and it seemed way to much work, the chickens have been raised in our house and the dogs have always been around them as they grew

we started them in the pantry in a barrel

and then moved them into a dog kennel in the living room for a couple weeks

and then since they have been out in the coop the dogs have always seen them in our "yard"

I figured, they had to realize they are part of the family, so sunday, I took the dogs down to the greenhouse

the gsd seemed more interested in the chicken feed

the pug wasn't quite sure what to think

so the last 2 days I have been letting the chickens out to free range and letting them mingle with the dogs

our old boy isn't even interested

the gsd just follows them around eating chicken poop

should have done this last year

So for the last year you never let them out in your yard with your dags? Awesome idea about the dog crate -- I am going to borrow that for our chicks.

FREEDOM!!!

I am going to steal your dog crate idea so that the pooch can get to know the chicks but still not be able to get to them.

Did your chicks go back into the coop at night by themselves?

I think I'm going to move my chicks into the kennel soon and see how my beagle reacts. I'm a little unsure, since she already seems to have an interest in what's in the tote (their current brooder). Not sure if it's just natural beagle curiosity or her instincts driving her to want to snatch one up.
