Just wait for the pooping on your porch to commence.
Check out Paul Wheaton's experience with birds pooping on his front porch.

My wife had the chicks out all day yesterday in the dog crate. On previous days we have used a shock collar for the dog and we could remotely shock her if she got too close to the crate. Yesterday the batteries died. Big change. The dog would walk up to the crate, paw at it, etc. She knew she wouldn't get shocked so she wasn't as scared. We firmly told her NO when we caught her doing this but she would try it again if no one was around after a while. This doesn't bode well... I was hoping for long term learning vs. constant monitoring.
In other news I put the coop in the barn because it will be very cold here for the next few days. We are going away for the weekend so I put the chicks in the coop. I built a PVC food tube like below, except I cut out a section of the end cap instead of the horizontal tube to limit poop in the food, and put water nipples in the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket. We'll see if the chicks learn to drink from the nipples -- it is the only water they have.

Water -- looks like this

Pork, I put the chicks out into the tractor for a few hours the other day and I kept tapping the nipples on the water bucket. They were interested because of the noise, but they never stepped up to drink or investigate. I dont know if they were freaked out being outside for the first time, but I'm going to try the same thing again this weekend and see if they'll try to peck at it and drink from it.
Let me know if you learn the secret
