Why would you take a pregnant sow to slaughter?

A female pig who escaped death now has a safe place to call home with her new litter after she was rescued off Highway 50.

The pregnant pig, who was eventually named Rita, managed to safely leap off a truck that was taking her to a slaughter house. When Rita was found on the highway, she was taken to Sacramento County Animal Shelter where she gave birth to nine adorable piglets, according to Animal Place.
