Every morning, I let my dog out into the yard before I go to work.  She's an 8 year old beagle.  She's trained pretty well and usually just does her business and comes back in as Im finishing up my morning routine before I leave for the day.

Well this morning I let her out and about 10 minutes later I realize I haven't heard her scratch at the door yet.  I go to the door and call her and I dont hear or see anything.  So I quickly throw on some jeans boots and a sweatshirt and go out calling.  It takes a minute but eventually I hear that unmistakable baying of a beagle in chase.  Oh jeez.  It sounded about a mile away.  I start running.  Across my property, across the street through the neighbor' property and into the woods.  I had to hop a creek and a fence and get up a wooded hill and still cant see her.  Luckily I can hear her.  About 5 minutes of running later I catch a glimpse in the distance of a red fox hauling it through the woods and brambles.  Two feet behind was my dog, her stubby little legs going a mile a minute.  They're zig-zagging through the woods, her baying the whole time and me behind calling after her. For what seemed like an eternity, I was chasing these two and eventually they must have doubled back in my direction just as was thinking  I couldn't run any more.  I gave one more pissed off call and started walking in the direction they were headed.  I saw Maui come out around a big tree with her head down and start ambling towards me.  We make the long walk home and I get home and take a look at all the scratches and torn clothing I received hauling it through the woods after this dog.

I can only imagine that the fox was in the yard snooping after the chickens and thats how Maui stumbled on it and began the chase.  So despite being an hour late for work and having to clean myself up again Im pretty proud of her for keeping an eye on the yard.  At least we both got some exercise.  I just wish it wasnt at 6am!

I sent my wife the link to this thread. Here's her reply:

You forgot to add how your wife would have put YOU in the doghouse if you couldn’t find her and how your dream of having goats would have been forever erased from topic of discussion!
