My wife went out in the yard this morning and one of the hens was just laying there in the grass in the rain. She went over and it just looked up at her and my wife bent down to pet her and she just laid there. She picked her up and stuck her in the coop and checked on her a hour later and the bird was laying in the same spot, I'm gonna go check on her a bit and see if she has a impacted egg or something. Any suggestions? Bird is only 3 years old and wife is pretty upset about it.
So I went and grabbed some epsom salt and made a bath for chick chick

this really sucks, I have no qualms with slaughtering a animal for food, but to just lose one is unacceptable to me, but it is, what it is

Check for bite marks around the neck, we were losing a bunch of chickens a few years ago. It turned out to be a pine marten sucking the blood out of them and leaving them kind of zombified for a few days before they died. Vet said there was nothing cost effective could be done to save them. One of the dogs got a hold of the marten killing it and then the problem went away.
