So, we sent the smaller boar to be proceesed in hopes that the big boar would breed the sow soon. Good idea because today he seems very interested. He has followed her all day with his snout in unmentioned places, lol. This makes her 4th heat cycle but is the first time he has shown interest. He tried, but she is not allowing him yet. How many hours or days until she is in standing heat? I would like to be accurate on the dates because it will still be cold when she delivers and we need to be ready with heat lamp etc...
If you've bred hogs I could use a teacher please!
I came across this site last year when we were debating breeding our own that is pretty informational
http://www.thepigsit.....-detection
on a episode of victorian farm, they were showing how they breed their sheep and how to know when the deed is done, they would put a red powder under the ram and when they saw the dye on the back end of the female, they knew the deed was done, probably wouldn't work for pigs, but I thought it was kind of cool
Went up to observe her for awhile earlier. She's still not standing....He's still rooting in the dirt where she does her business. Without being too crude they both appear to look like they managed something...possibly... who knows??? I need some cash flow here so piglets would be a nice event. Thinking of taking in one of the calves to butcher, after graining for a couple weeks first. Maybe selling off another one. I don't know, they aren't very big yet...

I saw your pics on facebook, which ones are you thinking of getting rid of? I'm not sure if spotted and danger are ready for a calve, but they have been talking about it
I tried to post when I first saw this but couldn't get it to post. Hopefully this time... The black angus calf probably can go. Also we are reconsidering keeping a bull after all. Nearby friends have offered us theirs when we need one and he is already old enough so might sell the bull calf too. These are all part dairy/part beef. My Charolais cow is due to drop her calf any time now too. She has nice calves. He can holler at me if he wants to talk about it...We were supposed to get together this fall but both families weretoo busy...
