quite a few members have thought of raising rabbits, and since you do, a couple questions

what are the best breeds in your opinion?

how many males and how many females do you keep?

how much space do they take up?

How is feed cost?

How often do you breed them?

Do you process yourself?

You had mentioned wanting to tan the hides, what will you be doing with them once you do?

Have you broken down the cost per pound for the rabbit meat you raise?

that's all I got, anyone else have any other questions for her?

Breeds: I started with white New Zealand's, then decided that I newde Silver Foxs. My farms name is Flying Fox Farm... Lame reason, but it worked for me. Of the 2 breeds I prefer the Silver Fox. They are friendlier, I need to be able to handle them. Their grow put rate is faster. And I really like their fur.

Breeds continued : in the spring I hope to add a large breed Angora so that I have fiber to spin

#- I like having 1 buck per 2 does. Just my preference.

How often to breed: kits should be weaned at 8 weeks of age, and reasy to butcher. Some people rebreed when kits are 6 weeks. Gestation is 30 days so you could conceivably breed 6-7 times a year. I am only feeding 2 people and I'm not selling any so 2-3 times a year is sufficient for me.

Answers to more questions: I have not really figured out cost of feed/ meat to bone ratio etc.. My main concern is not being dependent on Walmart for my families meat. I want my food to be as pure as possible. Prior to the butchering that o just DoD I was feeding 11 rabbits on a 50# bag of feed approx every 2 week's. Yes. I do the whole thing, beginning to end myself. My rabbit barn is approx 11 x 8. Eventually my cages will be hanging, ans should be able to fit about 10 cages comfortably. I'd I missed any questions, let me know!
