These pictures were taken on our homestead a few weeks ago. We've been at our new place for almost 2 months now, and inherited a hive of our own, which is exciting. Well, Friday we had a rogue swarm show up and called another local beekeeper to have them removed and knew he'd keep them for himself as well. Then Saturday we came home only to discover another swarm had shown up, only attached to a pole, which made the queen much more difficult to locate so our bee keeping friend could move this swarm to his home. It was SUCH a neat experience, and I truly hope to see future swarms show up on our house. Next year we'll be more prepared to keep the swarm if it does happen again. I hope I post these pictures correctly.
This is the first swarm, after he's removed it, and then the "after" pictures of the hive's new home.
This is the following day when they're trying to locate the queen, which was much more difficult to do on the post vs. the swarm hanging on the limb. He was successful, but it was time consuming.
I think @nastynarwhal might have another good picture of this swarm. Such a neat/interesting experience!

We're still unsure at this point. It looked like we were going to consider sheep, but then found out that they carry a herpes virus that's deadly to whitetail deer, which is an issue for us. We've been approached to have a few cows, and we would barter for meat, which is a strong possibility. This year we're just having someone cut/buy the hay since the house closing/moving happened so fast. We're located within city limits, and pigs aren't allowed. So probably nothing much going on this year, but possibly cows next spring. I think that would be fun and a good way to introduce us to livestock.

That's exactly what I thought. The zoning board has been in the process of updating the town's strange laws/restrictions on livestock within city limits for quite some time now. I understand having restrictions directly in town, and yes, some people don't maintain their properties like they should, so allowing them to have goats or pigs would just add to the decline of the appearance. BUT there are people like ourselves situated on the outskirts of town that have the acreage to house livestock.
