I thought this was an onion article at first

DUBLIN (PIX11) — “The Simpsons” co-creator Sam Simon saved a gay bull from going to the slaughterhouse.

Benjy, a Charlerois bull, was deemed fertile by veterinarians, but failed to impregnate any heifers at a County Mayo farm. The Associated Press reported Benjy was more attracted to the bull that soon replaced him.

Because the bull was no longer helpful to the farmer, he was going to be sent to a slaughterhouse. This upset many activists who began a social media campaign against the move. They rallied together in hopes of raising $7,825 to transfer Benjy to Hillside Animal Sanctuary in Norfolk, England — a home to 2,000 unwanted farm animals and horses, AP reported.

When Simon heard about the movement, he said he was happy to donate the full amount of cash to ship Benjy to the animal sanctuary.

“All animals have a dire destiny in the meat trade, but to kill this bull because he’s gay would’ve been a double tragedy,” Simon said in a statement according to AP. “It thrills me to help PETA and ARAN make Benjy’s fate a sanctuary rather than a sandwich.”

yeah, they touch on that at the bottom of the article

Early in the month, Simon opened up to NBC’s Maria Shriver about his diagnosis of a terminal form of colon cancer.

“Cancer is a horrible disease, (and) I am struggling with it,” he told Shriver — but he added that it’s also been a lesson.

“It has been a fight; it’s been an adventure; it’s been an education,” Simon said. “It’s been the most amazing experience of my life.”
