K, can you break down how many meat chickens you bought, how long you kept them, and approx. how much you fed them? It seems like you didn't have them all that long, only built them a tractor, and they provided a ton of meat.

Chest freezer? Keep an eye on craigslist would be my recommendation. Or maybe bone a few of the chickens out to get the size down. I know that is sacrilege to some, just throwing out some ideas.

20 birds = 30 dollars

Feed 9 Bags = 126 dollars

Slaughtering= 60 dollars

total of 216 dollars

we lost one bird a couple weeks ago so it works out to 11.36 a bird, if I slaughtered myself, would have been 8.21 a bird. Also the last couple weeks they were going through almost 2 bags of feed a week, I could have slaughtered earlier and saved even more.

Was talking to one of my high school friends the other day and he couldn't understand why I would do it, kept saying he could go and get chicken at store for .89 cents a pound, I stopped trying to discuss the benefits of it.

so I weighed the smallest chicken last night, it was just under 7 pounds, so it breaks down to 1.63 a pound, not to bad
