I read the other day about using goats and pigs for clearing land. You put up 6 wire fencing with every other wire electrified. First put in goats to eat all of the vegetation and then put it pigs to dig up the roots. Then cut down whatever trees are left.

I have some areas on the outskirts of our meadow which have many young trees and are overgrown with various types of brush. I think I will make this my goal for next Spring -- it will give us a justification for having the animals. I don't think we will milk the goats -- supposedly eating a lot of random plants can make the milk taste funny. Who knows.

I quit milking goats because the milk tastes funny when I didn't control their diet. That's just my taste though.

Thanks for the info -- good to hear it confirmed. I mostly want the benefit of the clearing of the land first. Once they clear the area I would either move them to a new area or breed them and control their diet for milk. I don't think we as a family are ready for morning and night milking but I think we could swing feeding them and letting them graze/chew up an overgrown piece of land.

I want to cut a pathway into our woods to run the pigs in there this summer to see how well they clear it out, it gets so overgrown though, worried about a million shorts in the wire
