Wow, just wow. I think I'm in the same boat as you - split. This would be a cool water catchment pond. 

I wonder if they did any calculations on the come-along straps being sufficient. My gut tells me, "no".

Could this be used for a taller/larger rain collector? Obviously the closer to circular you get, the stronger it would be. I just don't like the idea of paying $10k to hold 10,000 gallons. Here in Texas where rain has switched to binge and purge (two record setting floods this year alone), something like this seems pretty darn attractive.

Nice! For those without a pond, these could be a great way for heating/cooling assistance due to the large thermal mass.

Kind of unrelated but your subject got me googling and I found my new favorite house. Fortunately, it has the rainwater tanks and uses them exactly as I was saying: as a thermal battery.
