Ditto, been googling all morning without luck. I was trying to isolate by those metal rafter end covers too.

They look like they are hammered and nailed in around the edges (to me). What would you call them? Assuming there is a technical word for them...

it makes sense to me, when I first saw it, I thought they were just weathered, the metal would help with rot if done properly, plus it looks bad ass

pretty sure the ends are metal. common thing to do where i live on pilings. they usually use copper.
