Looks like a neat project. I wonder what the total pricetag would have come out to without all of the donations. Looks like it would be limited to spices and a small amount of herbs or just for building up a few seedling before the full growing season. Any details on the site where you found it? Looked like the glass might be double pane but I'm not even sure why you would bother with a greenhouse. Also, didn't see any form of climate control (vents that you could open/close as needed), just that the gables were open on both sides and that the back left corner was well spaced wooden slats (presumably for beans or other vines). I did recognize the same footing/first course that you used for your house KVR. I've got a good shed with a side on it that could have once been a greenhouse. I'll shoot some pictures when we get back in December.

I came across it on youtube, not sure where it's from, agree the glass is overkill, a good place to find some cheap stuff is window companies, we have one right down the road and all the old windows they replace, they stack out back and the garbage company comes and picks them up weekly, they allow you to pick through them, I'm always amazed what people throw away

KVR, sounds like you might be able to get away with a cool "patch-work" windowed greenhouse. I would assume that you could put one together with the following:

  • Aluminum in both a 90 angle and a T shape
  • Weather stripping (single sided socket like what goes around your trunk)
  • Well placed studs

As long as you have the studs spaced close enough you could use the aluminum to pinch the weather stripping and suspend the glass to avoid any ridged connections. My concern isn't so much about the glass expanding and contracting but the wood. Plus you could cover the climate control that we discussed with a ridge vent coupled with a closeable door, a metal turbine vent, and or some sweet old school glass louvers.

probably a ridge vent wouldn't be a bad idea either

yeah we did the tunnels on a smaller scale, not a fan, to much dead space and working around them can be tricky
